Description:
Double Helix Atlas is a lampworking color rod formulated for 104 COE glass. It is manufactured as a solid colored glass rod intended for torch work such as beads, pendants, marbles, and small sculptural components. Double Helix colors are used when you want specialty effects that develop through heatwork and flame chemistry, producing depth and surface character that standard transparent and opaque colors do not provide. Atlas is commonly chosen as a reactive color that can be used for base color, striping, or surface design when you want a premium color that responds to controlled heating and flame adjustments to create complex visual results.
How it is used:
Introduce the rod to the flame gradually to prevent thermal shock, then heat to a workable glow and apply it to your piece as a base layer, wrap, or surface decoration. Use consistent heatwork for smooth application, then adjust flame chemistry and working temperature to develop the reactive effects. Allow the piece to even out at temperature to stabilize the surface, then place it into a kiln and anneal using a schedule appropriate for 104 COE .
