Description:
Double Helix Atlas 2 Rod is a 104 COE soft glass rod produced by Double Helix Glass. Atlas 2 is formulated in an updated color base with the same nucleation system as other Double Helix striking colors. The glass is highly saturated with silver as the only colorant and can produce a range of colors in both transparent and opaque finishes, including ambers, purples, blues, and greens. It works well in both surface and encased applications. The rods are approximately 12 inches long and 5 to 7 millimeters in diameter.
How it is used:
This glass is used in lampworking when you want to create pieces with a variety of color options from a single rod. Atlas 2 is easy to strike using the reset, cool, and warm sequence. It is very responsive to varied thermal history, which allows you to develop many different colors on the same piece. For surface application, the benchmark timing is a reset followed by 30 seconds of cooling and 30 seconds of striking. When using a clear encasement layer, add approximately 15 seconds to both the cooling and striking times. The specific times and final color outcomes will vary depending on your flame chemistry, torch type, and thermal management, making each piece unique and customizable.
