Description:
This stainless steel cone mandrel is a tapered, solid-form shaping tool made for beadmakers who want clean, repeatable flares and vessel-style bead interiors. The cone profile supports the glass as you build outward, helping you form evenly opened ends, gentle tapers, and consistent interior shapes that are difficult to achieve on a straight mandrel.
Because it’s stainless steel, it holds up well to repeated heating cycles at the torch and releases cleanly when properly prepared with bead release. This size is especially useful when you want a slightly larger vessel opening or a broader flare without jumping all the way up to a 1 inch form.
How it is used:
- Coat the cone evenly with bead release and allow it to dry completely.
- Warm the mandrel gradually in the back of the flame to prevent shocking the bead release.
- Wind molten glass onto the prepared area and build your bead or small vessel form.
- Use the taper to flare the opening by heating and gently shaping the glass along the cone.
- Anneal as normal, then remove the bead and clean the bead release from the hole.
