Description:
Boro Batch Boro Shorts are shorter-than-standard lengths of borosilicate color rod produced from Boro Batch glass. They are made as the same working rod stock you would normally use at the torch, but cut down into shorter pieces, making them a cost-effective way to stock up on color, test new batches, and keep a wider palette on the bench without committing to full-length rods. Shorts are especially useful for small sculptural work, beads, pendants, and components where you do not need long pulls, and they are also a great option for color mixing and experimentation.
How it is used:
Select rods that match the color family you want to work with, then introduce the short rod into the flame slowly to preheat and prevent thermal shock. Use the rod to apply color directly to a base piece, pull stringer, make small gathers for sculpting, or add accents and overlays. Because the pieces are shorter, many lampworkers keep them organized by color family in cups or trays so they are quick to grab during production work and easy to rotate through when testing combinations.
