Moretti Coral Filigrana rods are soft glass color rods made with a filigrana construction, meaning a core color is combined with fine white striping that runs the length of the rod. This style of cane is used when you want clean, consistent lines and a classic “barber pole” or striped look in beadmaking and soft-glass lampworking. The coral base gives a warm orange-red tone, while the white filigrana lines stay visible as you shape, twist, or encase the glass.
How it is used:
- Heat the end of the rod in a neutral flame and wind it onto a mandrel to build a bead with built-in striping.
- Twist the rod as it heats to tighten the spiral line effect before applying it to your work.
- Use as a decorative overlay on a base bead, then lightly marver to smooth while keeping the striping crisp.
- Pull into stringer for finer lined detail work, then apply as surface decoration or scrollwork.
- Encase with clear soft glass to add depth and magnify the filigrana pattern.
