Moretti Ivory Filigrana rods are soft glass color rods made with a filigrana construction, where an ivory-toned base is combined with fine white striping that runs the full length of the rod. This built-in striping is ideal when you want consistent, repeatable line work without having to layer multiple colors by hand. Ivory filigrana is especially useful for traditional bead styles, scrollwork, and twist effects where the warm neutral base keeps the pattern readable and pairs well with both transparent and opaque soft glass colors.
How it is used:
- Heat the rod tip in a neutral flame and wind onto a mandrel to create beads with instant linear pattern.
- Twist the rod as it warms to tighten the spiral stripe effect before applying it to the bead surface.
- Use as a decorative wrap over a base bead, then gently marver to smooth while keeping the striping crisp.
- Pull into stringer for finer lined detail, then trail or draw with it for controlled pattern placement.
- Encase with clear soft glass to add depth and visually amplify the filigrana striping.
