Moretti Red Striking Transparent is a soft glass color rod from Effetre, pulled to a working diameter that’s ideal for most beadmaking and small flameworking work. This is a striking red, meaning the color develops through controlled heating and cooling cycles in the flame. In the studio, it’s chosen when you want a transparent red that can be “worked into” its final tone, allowing you to tune the intensity from lighter ruby tones to deeper reds depending on heat history. It is commonly used for beads, small sculptural elements, overlays, and transparent color accents where you want depth and light transmission rather than an opaque surface.
How it is used:
- Warm the rod gradually and establish a small gather to avoid shocking.
- Apply as a base color for beads or small forms, or use as a transparent overlay over compatible soft-glass colors.
- Strike the color by cycling the glass through heat and cooling: heat to working temperature, allow it to cool slightly out of the flame, then reintroduce to a gentle flame to bring up the red.
