Pixie Dust Antique Silver is a fine pigment powder designed to create bright, metallic silver accents on glass artwork. This powder is made from antique silver pigments that bond to hot glass surfaces, giving you a reflective highlight that can make raised details, linework, and focal areas pop. Pixie Dust pigments are used to highlight and accentuate key visual elements in lampworked and fused pieces, especially when you want a metallic look without adding metal leaf or foil. The pigment is applied to glass while it is red-hot, then briefly annealed to help set the powder in place. For best durability and to preserve the metallic finish, a transparent protective coating is generally recommended after the pigment is fused. Available for sale in 28 gram increments.
How it is used:
- Heat your glass piece until the area you want to decorate is red-hot
- Lightly immerse the hot glass into the pigment powder or dust the powder onto the surface for controlled placement
- Return the piece to the flame gently to smooth and set the pigment without overheating it
- Briefly anneal the piece, taking care not to burn the pigment off the surface
- Apply a transparent protective coating to help protect the metallic finish
- Finish annealing as normal for your glass type and project
