Description:
Pixie Dust - Interference Violet is a Pixie opalescence powder with violet undertones used to add a luminous, opalescent highlight to soft glass work. This fine powder is applied directly to hot glass to create bright accent areas and shifting surface effects that help define focal points, edges, and raised details in beads and small sculptural components. After the powder is applied, the piece is briefly annealed with controlled heat to avoid burning the finish off, and a transparent protective coating is generally recommended to help preserve the opalescent surface. This Pixie Dust color is sold in 28 gram increments.
How it is used:
- Bring the glass to a red-hot working temperature where you want the opalescent effect.
- Lightly immerse the hot section into the powder or gently coat the surface with Pixie Dust.
- Briefly anneal while keeping the heat soft and controlled so the powder does not burn off.
- Apply a transparent protective coating as a finishing layer when appropriate for your process.
