Pixie Dust - Micro Pearl is made from small flecks of opalescent pigment designed to create a pearly, light-catching highlight on soft glass work. This fine opalescence powder is used when you want to accent focal points, brighten raised details, or add a subtle shimmering surface effect without overpowering the base color. One common method is to bring the glass to a red-hot working temperature and lightly immerse or coat the hot area in the powder. The piece is then briefly annealed with careful heat control so the finish does not burn off, and a transparent protective coating is generally recommended to help preserve the opalescent look. This Pixie Dust color is sold in 28 gram increments.
How it is used:
- Heat the area of the piece you want to highlight until it is red-hot.
- Lightly immerse the hot glass into the powder or gently coat the surface with Micro Pearl.
- Briefly anneal while keeping the heat soft and controlled so the powder does not burn off.
- Add a transparent protective coating as a finishing layer when appropriate for your process.
