Asian 38mm Purple Tubing is a Chinese-made borosilicate color tubing supplied in 4 ft lengths and sold by the piece. This is a lightly saturated transparent lavender purple, so it reads clean and bright in the flame without going overly dark or muddy when you stretch it out. Transparent purples in this range are commonly chosen for work where you want light transmission and depth, especially when layered over clear or used in sleeving where the underlying wall thickness and any interior detail can still influence the final look.
How it is used:
This tubing is used as ready-made hollow color stock for borosilicate lampworking. Typical uses include:
- Sleeving over clear tubing to create transparent lavender color blanks for cups, small vessels, and hollow components where you want depth rather than solid opacity.
- Using it as the outer layer in a color-over-clear build to keep the strength of clear boro while adding a transparent purple skin that still shows form and thickness variation.
- Cutting into sections for blown parts, collars, and accent bands where a lighter transparent purple gives a softer, more luminous look than an opaque purple.
- Pulling down into smaller diameter color tubing for matching components and transitions while keeping the color from becoming too heavy.
