Asian 44mm Opaque Green Tubing is a colored borosilicate glass tube made for lampworkers who want a solid, non-transparent green in large hollow work. This tubing is manufactured in China and supplied as straight colored tubing, giving you an even, uniform opaque color without needing to sleeve clear and build color by hand. Opaque green is chosen when you want the color to read bold and graphic, hide internal transitions more effectively than transparent color, and provide strong contrast for surface decoration, linework, or layered assemblies.
In larger diameter tubing, the big advantage is speed and consistency. Starting from a ready-made hollow blank reduces the number of seals compared to building a tube from rod, and it helps keep wall thickness more predictable across multiple pieces. For production-style lampworking and larger functional builds, 44mm opaque color tubing is commonly used for full-body sections, thick color bands, collars, and straight tube segments where you want the green to stay solid and consistent through reheats and assembly.
Opaque Green tubing is typically cut into a workable section, the ends are fire-polished, and then it is worked using standard borosilicate hollow techniques. Most lampworkers will close one end, add a handle or blowhose, and then inflate, shape, or pull down the tube depending on the form being built. It can also be stretched down into smaller diameter tubing for custom transitions, used as a sleeve when you want a uniform opaque outer layer, or incorporated as straight sections and bands in multi-part assemblies where strong, solid green is the goal.
