Asian-made borosilicate color tubing in a light cobalt blue formulation, produced as a consistent, machine-drawn tube that provides a uniform hollow starting point for flameworking. Color tubing is used when you want continuous color coverage and a predictable wall without having to build a hollow form from solid rod, which saves time and helps keep wall thickness even as you inflate and shape. Light cobalt blue is typically chosen when you want a brighter, more transparent blue that transmits light beautifully in thinner sections while still maintaining strong color saturation, making it ideal for work where luminosity and clarity are part of the aesthetic.
This tubing is used as a hollow blank for lampworking. A typical workflow is to cut a section, fire-polish the ends, and then attach a handle or blow tube for controlled heating and inflation, or seal one end to start a bubble for shaping. The 50mm diameter is well-suited for very large hollow bodies where you want maximum starting volume and an uninterrupted color surface, such as oversized vessels, large sculptural components, and statement sections in assembled work. Light cobalt blue tubing is also useful for creating strong color bands, collars, and transitions, and it can be stretched and necked down while maintaining even color distribution and light transmission through the forming process.
