Asian 9mm Transparent Black Tubing is a lightly saturated transparent black color tubing made in China. It is manufactured as straight, consistent tubing intended for borosilicate lampworking and is supplied in 4 ft lengths. Transparent black is used when you want the depth and contrast of a dark color while still allowing some light transmission and visual layering, especially when paired over clear or used in sections where you want a smoky, dimensional look rather than a fully opaque block of color.
In both artistic and scientific lampworking, starting from color tubing is an efficient way to build hollow forms with a uniform starting geometry. This size is a practical choice for smaller hollow assemblies, detail sections, and components where you want clean lines and controlled wall development without the extra steps of sleeving rod.
How it is used:
This tubing is worked like other borosilicate color tube:
- Use it as a starting body tube for small hollow forms, sections, and assemblies where a transparent black tone is desired.
- Heat evenly while rotating to maintain roundness, then shape with gravity and standard hand tools such as paddles, jacks, and a graphite marver depending on the form.
- Join to compatible borosilicate clear or other colors for transitions and layered effects, using transparent black to add contrast, depth, and a refined dark accent without going fully opaque.
