Origin Bing Cherry Frit (L) is a colored glass frit made by crushing compatible color glass into irregular granules. This frit is used in lampworking when you want to apply color quickly across a surface while still keeping a broken, organic look that reads as movement and depth in the finished piece. Large frit is chosen when you want more visible particulate patterning, bolder color breaks, and intentional texture before you melt it in fully. It is commonly used for spot applications, layered color fields, and effects that become especially dimensional when lightly melted and then encased in clear.
How it is used:
- Heat the base glass until the surface is tacky, then roll the hot area in frit or sprinkle frit onto the surface.
- Reheat to tack the frit in place, then choose your finish by either leaving slight texture or melting the frit smooth.
- For controlled patterning, apply frit only to targeted areas, then stretch or twist the form to pull the color into streaks.
- If encasing, melt the frit in smoothly first to reduce trapped air and to keep the encasement clean.
