Origin Black Frit (F) is a fine-grade black glass frit used for smooth shading, crisp contrast, and clean graphic detail in lampworking and other torch-based glasswork. Fine frit is made of very small particles, so it applies quickly, melts in fast, and is ideal when you want a more even layer with minimal surface texture. This makes it especially useful for controlled darkening, soft gradients, and underlayers that you plan to encase. Black frit is also a go-to for outlining and defining forms without adding bulky texture, and it can be used in thin applications to deepen color work while keeping the surface clean and refined.
How it is used:
- Bring the glass surface to a light tack so the fine particles grab evenly
- Roll or dab the hot glass into the frit for a thin, uniform coating
- Melt in fully for smooth shading, or melt in lightly for subtle peppering
- Apply in thin layers to build density gradually and avoid over-darkening
- Encapsulate with clear to lock in contrast and add depth without rough texture
