Origin Lazuli Blue Frit (S) is a small grade glass frit in a lazuli blue color. Frit is made by crushing compatible glass into particles and then sieving it into a consistent size range so it applies evenly and melts in predictably. The small frit grade is a go to choice when you want controlled coverage and cleaner detail than medium or large frit, while still building color faster than pulling full rod color into the work. In lampworking, small frit is commonly used for quick surface color on beads, small blown components, and sculptural elements, and it is especially useful when you want an even blue that can be melted smooth and encased without leaving heavy texture.
How it is used:
- Warm the base glass in a neutral flame until the surface is tacky enough to accept frit.
- Roll the hot glass through frit for overall coverage, or touch specific areas for spot color and shading.
- Reheat gently to fuse the frit in, keeping the heat even so the particles melt down smoothly.
- Apply additional thin layers to deepen the color without creating a lumpy surface.
- Optionally encase with clear for depth and a smooth finish, then anneal as appropriate for the glass type being used.
