Origin Light Grey Frit (L) is crushed color glass in a large frit grade. Frit is made by melting compatible glass, cooling it, then crushing and sizing it into consistent particle ranges. Large frit is chosen in lampworking when you want a bold, visible speckle and a more textured surface effect than fine frit provides. Light grey is especially useful for soft shading, neutral patterning, and creating stone-like or weathered looks without the harsh contrast of black. It is also commonly used as a base texture layer under transparent colors to add depth and visual complexity.
How it is used:
- Roll a warm gather or bead across the frit to pick up particles, then melt in lightly to keep texture or fully to smooth the surface.
- Spot-apply frit by heating a small area and touching it into the frit for controlled placement and pattern building.
- Use light grey frit under transparent colors to create a muted, dimensional background.
