Origin Light Grey Frit (S) is a small-grade glass frit in a light grey color, intended for adding quick, consistent surface color and visual texture to flameworked work. Small frit is especially useful when you want even coverage, controlled placement, and clean melt-in without the chunkier look you get from larger grades.
In lampworking, light grey frit is commonly used as a neutral base tone, for soft shading, and for building layered color effects without overpowering the form. It can be applied as a full coat for an even field of color, or used selectively for speckling and subtle patterning on beads, pendants, marbles, and small sculptural components.
How it is used:
- Warm the glass surface until it is slightly tacky, then roll or gently press the hot area into the frit
- Flash the piece in and out of the flame to secure the frit without blowing it off
- Melt the frit in gradually, rotating to keep the coating even and avoid creating thick ridges
- Use light applications for speckle effects, or heavier applications for more solid coverage
- Encasing can be used when appropriate to smooth the surface and add depth to the color
