Origin Stone Grey Frit (L) is a large-grade glass frit in a stone grey tone, designed to give bold, broken-up color and pronounced surface texture when applied to hot glass. Large frit pieces stay more visually distinct than smaller grades, so you get a more organic, chunky pattern that can be melted in partially for texture or fully for a heavier, variegated look.
In lampworking, large frit is commonly chosen when you want strong movement and visible patterning on the surface of beads, pendants, marbles, and small sculptural work. Stone grey is a versatile neutral that pairs well with both bright colors and earth tones, making it useful for base layers, shading, and creating depth in layered frit applications.
How it is used:
- Heat the glass until the surface is tacky, then roll or press the hot area into the frit
- Use a slightly bushier flame and steady rotation to tack down larger pieces without knocking them off
- Melt in slowly to control how much texture remains on the surface
- Spot-apply for bold speckling, or coat larger areas for an all-over broken pattern
- Encasing can be used when appropriate to smooth the surface while preserving the layered look underneath
