Description:
Simax clear tubing is borosilicate glass stock formed as a straight, hollow tube for scientific and artistic lampworking. This tubing is supplied in a 145mm length with a 5mm wall thickness, giving you a rigid tube that holds its shape well during heating, sealing, and assembly work. A thicker wall thickness is often selected when you want added durability in finished pieces, stronger welds, and more material for pulling down, forming transitions, and reinforcing connection points without the tube going soft too quickly.
How it is used:
- Warm the tubing gradually and evenly before bringing it up to full working temperature to reduce thermal shock.
- Use the thicker wall thickness to help the tube stay round while making seals, welds, and assemblies.
- Heat and pull down sections to create smaller tubing sizes, neck-downs, and tapered transitions.
- Join to other tubing or solid stock by heating both pieces evenly, welding them together, and smoothing the seal line.
- Cut into shorter working lengths for repeatable parts, then fire polish the cut edge before assembly.
