Description:
Blue Aventurine Dust is an ultra-fine glass powder made from aventurine glass, a specialty glass that contains metallic crystals suspended in the base glass to create a bright, sparkling shimmer. Because the particle size is extremely fine, dust is used in lampworking when you want soft gradients, controlled shading, and smooth coverage without the speckled look that frit produces. It is commonly used for subtle surface coloration, shimmering “haze” effects, and fine detail work on beads, small blown forms, and sculptural components where you want the aventurine sparkle to read evenly after it is melted in.
How it is used:
- Lightly warm the glass surface, then roll or dab it into a thin layer of dust for controlled pickup.
- Use a small spoon, sifter, or brush to apply dust in specific areas for fades and shading.
- Flash in the flame to tack the dust in place, then melt in gently to avoid boiling or blowing the powder off the surface.
- Encase with clear to add depth, smooth the surface, and visually intensify the sparkle.
- Layer over darker base colors when you want the shimmer to stand out more strongly.
