Moretti Blue Flower Milli is a floral-pattern millefiori cane made from compatible soft glass and produced as a patterned bundle that has been fused and pulled into a single rod. When you slice the cane into thin cross-sections, each slice reveals the same blue flower design. This type of millefiori is used in lampworking and beadmaking when you want crisp, repeatable floral details without having to hand-build the pattern in the flame. It is typically applied as a surface decoration and then carefully heated until it bonds smoothly to the base glass.
How it is used:
- Warm the millefiori cane gradually at the far edge of the flame to reduce thermal shock.
- Use nippers or a mosaic cutter to take thin slices from the cane.
- Preheat the slices on a kiln marver, warming plate, or the back of the flame until they are less prone to cracking.
- Tack a slice onto a warm bead or component, then gently reheat until it fully fuses to the surface.
- Lightly encase with clear if you want added depth and protection, then anneal as normal for your glass type.
