Moretti Blue Flowers Milli is soft glass millefiori made as patterned glass cane with a blue flower design running through the length of the cane. Millefiori is used in lampworking when you want consistent, repeatable floral detail without building the pattern from scratch in the flame. The cane is typically warmed, then sliced into small cross sections that reveal the flower face, which can be applied to beads, small sculptural work, and decorative components. It is commonly used either as a surface murrine application for crisp floral dots or encased under clear to add depth and protect the design.
How it is used:
- Warm the millefiori cane slowly to reduce thermal shock, then heat the tip and pull a small gather to create a punty for control.
- Use nippers or a mosaic cutter to slice thin cross sections, then prewarm the slices on a kiln shelf or warming plate before introducing them to the flame.
- Heat the bead surface to a tacky state, place the slice with tweezers, and gently press it in so the design stays centered and readable.
- Melt in lightly to keep the flower crisp, or melt in fully and encase with clear for a smoother surface and added optical depth.
