Moretti Blue & White Design Milli is a soft glass millefiori with a crisp blue-and-white patterned face that runs through the cane. Millefiori is made by bundling carefully arranged colored glass canes, fusing them into a single patterned billet, pulling that billet down into a cane, and slicing it into small cross-sections that reveal the design. This type of milli is used in soft-glass lampworking when you want consistent graphic detail for beads, small pendants, and decorative components without having to build the pattern by hand each time.
How it is used:
- Pre-warm the millefiori slowly in the back of the flame to reduce thermal shock.
- Heat your bead or base glass until the surface is soft and receptive.
- Touch the milli to the hot surface and press gently until it grabs.
- Reheat carefully to seal the edges into the base glass without boiling the design.
- Use a graphite paddle or marver to keep the application flat and centered as it melts in.
- If desired, apply a compatible clear encasement once the milli is fully sealed to add depth and protect the pattern.
