Moretti Red & Yellow Sun Milli is a soft glass millefiori that features a sun-like pattern built from layered colored glass canes. Millefiori is constructed by bundling and fusing multiple colored rods into a larger patterned cane, then pulling it down to size and slicing it into small cross-sections that reveal the design. This style of milli is used when you want crisp, repeatable graphic elements in beadmaking and soft-glass lampworking, especially for floral, celestial, and murrine-style surface decoration.
How it is used:
- Warm the millefiori gradually in the farthest part of the flame to reduce thermal shock.
- Bring your bead or soft-glass base to a stable working temperature.
- Press the millefiori chip into the surface while the base glass is soft enough to accept it.
- Gently heat and “tack” the chip in place, then carefully melt it in until the edges seal.
- Use a graphite paddle or marver to keep the application even and prevent the chip from shifting.
- Optionally encase with a compatible clear glass once the milli is fully sealed to protect the design and add depth.
