Moretti White & Red Reticello is a patterned soft-glass cane designed to create a fine net-like reticello look in lampworked beads and small components. It is constructed as a bundled cane where contrasting colors are arranged in a repeating line and lattice-style pattern, then fused and pulled so the design runs consistently through the length of the cane. In lampworking, reticello cane is used when you want controlled, repeatable linework and a classic Italian-style pattern without having to build the entire lattice by hand with stringer. It is especially useful for adding crisp graphic detail to bead surfaces, for building patterned twists, and for creating decorative overlays that can be melted in smooth or left slightly raised depending on the finish you want.
How it is used:
- Warm the reticello cane slowly at the edge of the flame to reduce thermal shock.
- Pull the cane down into stringer if you want finer linework and easier control on small beads.
- Apply the cane or pulled stringer to a warm bead surface in wraps, spirals, or crossed passes to build a net-like pattern.
- Gently reheat to fuse the pattern in, keeping the heat even so the lines stay clean and do not smear.
- Lightly encase with clear if you want added depth and protection, then anneal as normal for your glass type.
