Description:
TAG Golden Emerald Rod 104 COE is a pale green transparent reducing glass rod made for soft glass lampworking. It is pulled into rod form for consistent heating, clean stringer pulls, and predictable application at the torch. Golden Emerald is designed to develop metallic surface effects when worked in a reduction flame, and the final look changes depending on whether it is used over a light or dark base glass and how strongly it is reduced. With little or no oxygen in the reduction flame, Golden Emerald can develop a golden metallic sheen over its transparent golden green base. When reduced with some oxygen over a darker base glass, it can produce strong metallic oil spot colors including purple, blue, electric green, and other iridescent tones. This color is typically used when you want reactive surface effects and dramatic color shifts rather than a stable transparent green.
How it is used:
- Apply as a surface layer on beads or small sculptural forms, then reduce to bring up metallic sheen and oil spot effects
- Use over a dark base glass to encourage stronger metallic color development and higher contrast effects
- Pull into stringers for reactive line work, scrolls, and surface decoration that can be selectively reduced
- Work in stages by reducing, then lightly reintroducing oxygen to fine tune the metallic intensity and color range
- Use for accent areas where you want visible reduction effects, since heavy encasement can make the reduction difficult to preserve
