Black Patina is a liquid chemical patina used to darken and antique non-ferrous metals, most commonly copper and copper-based alloys. It comes in an 8 ounce bottle and is applied to clean metal to create a deep black finish that highlights texture, stamping, and relief details. In glass and lampworking studios, patina is often used during coldwork and finishing when you are building mixed-media pieces, such as pendants, stained glass panels, and jewelry that combine glass with copper foil, wirework, or soldered components. A blackened finish can also reduce glare and visually “frame” glass elements for a more finished, professional look.
Clean and degrease the metal first so the patina can react evenly. Apply the patina with a brush, swab, or by dipping, then allow it to develop to the darkness you want. Rinse with water to stop the reaction and dry thoroughly. After the finish is set, seal with wax or a clear protective coating to help preserve the color and reduce fingerprints and rub-off during handling.
