Description:
This 6" diamond sanding disc is a flat, rigid lap disc coated with industrial diamond abrasive in a 600 grit grade for fine grinding and smoothing. In glasswork, diamond abrasives are used because they cut glass cleanly and consistently without loading up the way conventional abrasives can. A 600 grit disc is typically chosen when you want to refine a surface after coarse shaping, smooth saw marks, true up edges, or prep a piece for a cleaner satin finish before moving to even finer grits and polishing compounds. It is commonly used in coldworking workflows for both lampworked and hot shop pieces, including flattening small bases, dressing punty marks, and cleaning up cut rims or edges.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible 6" lap wheel or disc grinder following the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
- Run water to keep the glass and disc cool and to carry away grinding swarf.
- Use light, controlled pressure and keep the glass moving to avoid creating low spots or heat stress.
- Step through grits as needed, using 600 grit as a fine smoothing stage before pre-polish or polish.
