Item Name:
Covington Parts - 6" Diamond Sanding Discs - 1200 Grit
SKU:

Description:
This is a 6" diamond sanding disc with a 1200 grit rating. It is constructed as a flat lap disc with an industrial diamond abrasive surface bonded to the working face. Diamond abrasives are used for coldworking glass because they cut efficiently while staying flat and consistent, which is critical when you are refining a surface for clarity and polish.
A 1200 grit disc is used late in the grinding sequence, after shaping and scratch removal are already complete. In lampworking and hot shop finishing, it is commonly used as a pre polish step to remove the finer scratches left by mid range grits and to prepare bases, edges, and faces for final polishing steps such as higher grit diamond, cerium oxide, or other polishing systems depending on the equipment and finish desired.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible lap wheel or flat lap machine.
- Use water as coolant and lubricant while grinding to control heat and keep the disc cutting cleanly.
- Use very light pressure and steady movement to avoid creating swirl marks or localized heat stress.
- Continue until the surface has an even, fine satin finish, then move to final polish steps.
