This 6" resin bond diamond disc is a flexible, resin-based grinding disc charged with diamond abrasive in a 1200 grit grade for fine finishing. Resin bond discs are used when you want a smoother, more forgiving cut than a hard metal bond disc, which helps reduce deep scratch patterns and makes it easier to transition into pre-polish and polish steps. In lampworking and hot shop coldworking, a 1200 grit resin disc is typically used after your shaping and smoothing stages to refine surfaces, soften grind lines, and prep areas like punty marks, bases, and cut rims for cerium or other polishing compounds. It is a go-to grit when you want a clean, even finish without removing unnecessary material.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible 6" lap wheel or disc grinder following the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
- Use water to keep the disc and glass cool and to flush away fine grinding swarf.
- Work with light pressure and steady movement to keep the finish uniform across the surface.
