Item Name:
Covington Parts - 6" Resin Bond Diamond Disc - 3000 Grit
SKU:
11-021
Description:
This is a 6" resin bond diamond disc in 3000 grit, made with diamond abrasive suspended in a resin bond layer on a rigid disc. Resin bond diamond is used for refinement because it smooths previous sanding marks more evenly than coarse plated diamond, helping you transition from sanding into pre polish and polish work.
In lampworking and coldworking, 3000 grit is typically used after you have already removed the heavy scratches with lower grits and you are preparing a surface for final polishing. It is a common step for bringing a satin to near glossy finish onto flat areas, smoothing cut edges, and reducing the time needed on cerium oxide, tin oxide, or other polishing compounds.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible flat lap or backing plate so it runs true and flat during use.
- Use with water as coolant and lubricant to control heat, reduce glass dust, and keep the resin bond cutting cleanly.
- Use light pressure and steady motion, letting the grit do the work so you do not create waves or low spots in the surface.
- When the surface has an even, fine finish with the earlier scratch pattern removed, move to your polishing step using the polishing pad and compound that matches your process.
