Item Name:
Covington Parts - 8" Diamond Sanding Disc - 220 Grit
SKU:
13-115
Description:
This is an 8" diamond sanding disc with a 220 grit rating. It is constructed as a flat, rigid lap disc with an industrial diamond abrasive surface bonded to the face of the disc. In glasswork, diamond abrasives are used because they cut glass cleanly and consistently without loading up the way conventional sandpaper can.
A 220 grit disc is typically used for medium stock removal and shaping, such as flattening and truing the base of a piece, refining a profile after a coarser grit, and removing saw marks or coldworking damage before moving on to finer grits for pre-polish and polish.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible lap wheel or flat lap machine.
- Use water as coolant and lubricant while grinding to control heat and carry away glass swarf.
- Apply light, even pressure and keep the glass moving to avoid creating low spots or heat stress.
- After the surface is shaped and uniform, progress to finer grits to remove the 220 grit scratch pattern.
