Description:
This fused quartz rod is a solid, clear quartz glass rod with a 14.0mm diameter. Fused quartz is chosen in lampworking and scientific flameworking when you need excellent heat resistance, strong thermal shock performance, and a clean, stable material for high-temperature work. It is commonly used for making or repairing quartz components, forming high-heat parts, and creating tooling or fixtures where standard glass would soften or devitrify too easily.
How it is used:
- Heat the rod in an oxygen-rich flame suitable for quartz work until it reaches a workable state.
- Use it to build up or modify quartz components by fusing sections together and shaping with appropriate graphite or metal tools rated for high heat.
- Fire-polish and finish edges and ends as needed to reduce sharp points and improve durability.
- Anneal or cool in a controlled manner appropriate to quartz work to reduce stress in finished parts.
