Construction
This tool is a solid graphite rod measuring 3/4 inch diameter by 12 inches long. One end is rounded and the other end is ground to a 60 degree point, giving you two working profiles on the same handle. Graphite is used because it tolerates heat well and does not readily stick to hot glass during brief contact.
Use in lampworking
A graphite push tool is used when you need controlled pressure on hot borosilicate without leaving metal marks or chilling the surface too aggressively. In lampworking, this style is commonly used to push and shape bowl and vessel forms, refine curves, and move glass in tight areas where a paddle or reamer is not the right geometry.
The rounded end is useful for broad, gentle pushes and smoothing, while the pointed 60 degree end is useful for more localized pushes, setting lines, and reaching into smaller radii during forming.
