Construction

This is a top grade graphite plate machined into a flat, rigid working surface. Graphite is used at the torch because it handles heat well and glass does not readily stick to it, which makes it ideal for shaping and supporting hot work. The plate format gives you a stable, broad surface that stays put on the bench and provides consistent contact when you are flattening or truing up a gather.

Use in Lampworking

A graphite plate is a go-to bench surface for marvering and forming. You use it when you need to flatten a punty mark area, true up the outside of a tube or solid gather, or create clean facets and planes before you move into more detailed shaping. It is especially useful for controlled shaping steps where you want the glass to cool slightly on contact without grabbing, so you can keep your form crisp and repeatable.
