Construction

This is a small, shaped opal cabochon with a crescent moon profile. It is made as an inlay-style opal element intended to be set into hot glass work, where the opal’s internal color play produces a green fire effect against the white base.

Use in Lampworking

Crescent moon opals are used when you want a crisp, recognizable graphic element embedded into a piece without having to sculpt that shape in glass. In lampworking, these are commonly set into a prepared seat on the surface of a pendant, marble, or small sculptural work, then carefully encased or collar-sealed so the opal becomes a protected focal point. The green fire reads especially well under clear encasement and gives you a bright flash that stays visible as the piece moves in the light.
