Construction

This is a first grade graphite marble mold with two formed hollows sized for shaping round work. Graphite is used for this kind of tool because it tolerates direct contact with hot glass, releases cleanly, and gives you a smooth surface finish when the glass is rotated in the cavity.

The mold body is machined with two cup-style depressions so you can choose the cavity that matches the size you are trying to finish, without switching tools mid-process.

Use in Lampworking

This mold is used to quickly true up and finish beads and marbles to a consistent round shape. After you establish a roughly spherical gather, you bring the glass to a workable heat and roll it in the appropriate hollow to remove high spots and bring the piece into round.

It is especially useful when you need repeatable results for sets, when you want a cleaner sphere before adding surface decoration, or when you are dialing in size consistency prior to encasing.
