Fused quartz tubing is produced from high-purity silica that is melted and formed into seamless tube stock for high-temperature, high-cleanliness applications. This size is 5.00 mm inside diameter and 8.00 mm outside diameter, creating a 3.00 mm wall that gives the tube extra stiffness and crush resistance compared to thinner-wall options in the same ID. In scientific lampworking, this thicker wall is often selected when the tubing needs to hold alignment during assembly, tolerate handling, or survive repeated heating cycles without slumping or deforming as easily. Fused quartz is used when the job calls for extremely low thermal expansion, strong thermal shock resistance, and excellent chemical inertness, making it a common choice for specialty laboratory components, high-temperature sleeves, and tubing runs where purity and heat performance matter. Supplied in a standard 4 foot length, it can be cut into sections for builds, pulled down for smaller transitions, or used as straight stock for custom apparatus work.
