Construction
This is a 6 inch composite backing plate made to run true with tight alignment. It has a 1/2 inch arbor hole so it can mount onto compatible lapidary and polishing equipment. The plate is designed to support thin polishing discs and similar consumables so they stay flat and stable during use.
Why and when it’s used in lampworking
This backing plate is used when you need a stable, true-running support for abrasive and polishing discs while finishing glass. In lampworking and scientific glass work, it is commonly used during coldworking steps such as flattening a seal surface, dressing an edge, refining a lip, or polishing a ground area after cutting or shaping. It is also a good fit for shop workflows where you move from torch work to bench finishing and want consistent disc support to help maintain even pressure and reduce chatter marks.
