Item Name:
Covington Parts - 6" Diamond Sanding Disc - 220 Grit
SKU:
13-051
Description:
This 6" diamond sanding disc is a flat lap disc coated with industrial diamond abrasive in a 220 grit grade for medium grinding and shaping. Diamond is the standard abrasive for coldworking glass because it cuts efficiently and stays consistent on hard materials. A 220 grit disc is typically used earlier in the finishing sequence when you need to remove material at a controlled pace, flatten and true surfaces, clean up saw marks, and shape edges before moving on to finer grits for smoothing and pre-polish. In lampworking and hot shop coldwork, it is a practical choice for dressing punty marks, truing small bases, and refining cut rims or edges prior to a 325, 600, 1200 grit progression and final polish.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible 6" lap wheel or disc grinder following the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
- Use water to cool the glass and disc and to flush away grinding swarf.
- Keep the glass moving with light, even pressure to avoid dips and heat stress.
- After shaping with 220 grit, step to finer grits to remove the 220 scratch pattern and prepare for polishing.
