Construction
By applying a Diamond Topper to a master backing plate, one is provided with an all around adept and competent replacement for tired and worn discs. Toppers are prepared with the same high quality as the Diamond Discs and are readied with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive backing is designed to hold the topper flat and secure on the master plate so the abrasive face runs true during grinding. This topper format lets you refresh your cutting surface while keeping your existing backing plate system in service.
Why and When It Is Used in Lampworking
In lampworking and scientific glass work, this topper is used during coldworking when you need a reliable diamond surface for shaping and truing annealed glass. It is commonly used to flatten contact faces, correct small distortions, and remove chill marks or tool marks before moving on to finer finishing stages.
The 180 grit grade is used after the most aggressive shaping steps, when you still need meaningful cutting speed but want a more controlled scratch pattern than a coarse disc. It is a practical mid-stage grit for refining the form and preparing the surface for subsequent finer diamond grits that lead into pre-polish and polish.
