Construction
By applying a Diamond Topper to a master backing plate, one is provided with an all around adept and competent replacement for tired and worn discs. Toppers are prepared with the same high quality as the Diamond Discs and are readied with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing.
This topper is made as a thin diamond abrasive surface designed to bond directly to a reusable master plate. The pressure-sensitive adhesive backing is intended to keep the topper seated flat and stable so the diamond face tracks true, cuts evenly, and restores a worn grinding surface without changing your existing plate setup.
Why and When It Is Used in Lampworking
In lampworking and scientific glass work, this topper is used during coldworking when you are transitioning from shaping into fine surface refinement. After annealing, it is common to true edges, flatten small faces, and remove the scratch pattern left by coarser diamond grits. A 600 grit surface is used when you want controlled material removal while significantly tightening the scratches so the piece can move into pre-polish steps.
This grit is especially useful when you are preparing sealing faces, joint landings, or any area that needs to be clean and even before final finishing. It is a practical stage for reducing the time spent chasing deep scratches later, because it leaves a much finer, more uniform surface than mid-range grits.
