Item Name:
Covington Parts - 6" Resin Bond Diamond Disc - 600 Grit
SKU:
11-029
Description:
This is a 6" resin bond diamond disc in 600 grit, constructed with diamond abrasive held in a resin matrix on a rigid disc. Compared to plated diamond discs, a resin bond disc is designed to refine scratches more smoothly and leave a more even finish as you move toward pre polish and polish steps.
In lampworking and coldworking, 600 grit is typically used after your shaping and medium grinding steps are complete and you are focused on removing earlier scratch patterns. It is a common refinement stage for flattening small surfaces, smoothing cut edges, and preparing glass for higher grits and final polishing when you want a cleaner, more controlled finish.
How it is used:
- Mount the disc to a compatible flat lap or backing plate according to your machine setup so it runs true and flat.
- Use with water as coolant and lubricant to control heat, reduce glass dust, and keep the resin bond cutting cleanly.
- Work with light, even pressure and steady movement to avoid creating low spots and to keep the scratch pattern consistent.
- When the surface shows an even 600 grit finish with the previous scratches removed, move up to finer grits such as 1200 and 3000, then polish as needed.
