Fused quartz tubing is constructed from high-purity silicon dioxide, created by fusing silica sand at extremely high temperatures to produce a non-crystalline glass with exceptional thermal properties. This 66mm inner diameter by 70mm outer diameter tubing features a 4mm wall thickness and is supplied in 4-foot lengths. Fused quartz is used in advanced lampworking and scientific glassblowing applications where borosilicate glass cannot withstand the extreme thermal demands. Unlike borosilicate, fused quartz has a softening point of 1683°C and an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 0.55 ppm/K, making it ideal for applications requiring exceptional thermal shock resistance and chemical inertness. This larger diameter tubing is particularly valued in scientific glassware fabrication, high-temperature laboratory equipment, and specialized artistic pieces where durability, purity, and superior heat tolerance are critical.
