Description:

The 7/8" Brass Lentil Press is a two-piece brass shaping tool used in lampworking to form consistent lentil-shaped beads. It is constructed from machined brass with matching top and bottom dies that create a smooth, symmetrical lentil profile while leaving a clean bead edge and even thickness.

Brass presses are popular because they heat up quickly at the torch, release glass cleanly when properly warmed, and produce repeatable shapes that are difficult to achieve freehand. This size is a go-to when you want a medium-to-larger lentil bead with a broad face for surface decoration, stringer work, or crisp encasing.

How it is used:

  • Coat your mandrel with bead release and make a bead slightly larger than the finished size
  • Warm the brass press so it is hot enough to prevent chill marks
  • Bring the bead to an even, soft glow and align it between the press halves
  • Close the press smoothly and evenly to form the lentil shape
  • Flash the bead in the flame to smooth any seam lines and refine the edges
  • Return the bead to the kiln for proper annealing
