Item Name:

Blow More Glass Tools - 7/8" x 12" Graphite Rod

SKU:

ABR-BMGT-850-120

Description:

This is a solid graphite rod stock sized at 7/8 inch diameter and 12 inches long. Graphite is used in glassworking because it tolerates direct radiant heat, does not stick to hot glass the way metals can, and it leaves a clean surface when used as a forming material. A rod in this size is a versatile “shop blank” that can be used as-is for hand forming, or it can be shaped and dressed into custom paddles, push tools, reamers, or forming tips depending on the profile you grind into the working end.

How it is used:

In lampworking and scientific glassblowing, a graphite rod is commonly used as a hand-held forming surface for shaping gathers, flattening small areas, and controlling hot glass without chilling it aggressively. It is also frequently used as raw stock for making custom graphite tools: you can sand or grind the end into a specific radius, bevel, or taper to match the inside curve of a tube, the shoulder of a vessel, or the contour you want on a marble or pendant. In hot shop support work, graphite rod stock is similarly useful for quick shaping and for making specialty hand tools that you don’t want to fabricate in metal.
