Asian 16mm Amber Rod is a solid color glass rod pulled to an approximately 16mm diameter and supplied as straight lengths for flameworking. This size is commonly used when you want more mass than standard small rod, such as for building up larger gathers, pulling thicker stringers, making cane, or producing higher-volume color application without constantly changing rods. Amber transparent tones are often chosen for warm overlays, encasement accents, and for mixing with other transparent colors to create layered depth in sculptural or vessel work.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod in the back of the flame and bring it up to working temperature slowly to reduce thermal shock.
- Use the rod as a color source for larger gathers, then apply to your base glass for overlays, wraps, and build-up work.
- Pull stringers or cane from the heated rod for fine linework, striping, and detail application.
- Use as a color layer under clear encasement to create depth and a richer transparent amber appearance.
