Asian 16mm Dark Cobalt Blue Rod is a solid color glass rod pulled to a consistent working diameter and intended for lampworking and other torch-based glasswork. The dark cobalt formulation is used when you want strong, saturated blue that holds its color in thicker gathers and reads bold in overlays, stringer work, and sculptural details. This size is especially useful when you need more mass at the torch for larger beads, thicker encasements, blown components, or when pulling a lot of stringer without constantly changing rods.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod in a kiln or warmer when possible to reduce thermal shock before introducing it to the flame.
- Bring the rod in slowly at the far end of the flame, then move into the working zone once the surface is evenly heated.
- Use the molten glass to build up gathers for larger beads, pendants, and small sculptural forms.
- Pull stringer from a heated gather for line work, scrollwork, and fine detail.
- Apply as an overlay or casing color over compatible clear to create strong blue depth and contrast.
